From the back cover:

“All great change in America begins at the dinner table. So, tomorrow night in the kitchen I hope the talking begins. And children, if your parents haven’t been teaching you what it means to be an American, let ’em know and nail ’em on it. That would be a very American thing to do. –Ronald Reagan

What’s happening at your dinner table? For some families the dinner table has become another place for television and text messaging. Parents, are you surrendering valuable opportunities to teach your children about the values, traditions, and attitudes of American Conservatism? If you are looking for a way to start these important conversations with your children, Why Am I Conservative? is the perfect first course. Fill your plate with a fine recipe of patriotism, freedom, responsibility, honor, and faith. Chapter by chapter, you will be served basic Conservative value statements, expanded explanations, historical quotes, discussion questions, and more! If you want more than just another TV dinner, then chew on Why Am I Conservative? to satisfy your appetite.”

About the book:

One election season not so very long ago, Melanie Angell Elliott was pleasantly surprised to realize that her two elementary-school-aged children were old enough to understand some politics!  She was enthused to start talking with them about who she was planning to vote for and why, and these discussions centered on conservative values. Realizing the vast scope of information she wanted to pass along, Melanie searched for a book that would explain conservative values at an elementary-school level. She never found one, so she decided to write one. The resulting work is Why Am I Conservative? 24 Topics for Kids or Anyone.

As the title states, the book isn’t just for kids. It is for anyone of any age who would like to learn a basic understanding of conservative values, or anyone who needs some help articulating why they are conservative. Melanie thought she was writing for kids, but many adults have told her that the book really benefited their understanding, as well.

Why Am I Conservative? 24 Topics for Kids or Anyone is divided into chapters. The chapters include: a simple conservative value statement; an expanded explanation; quotes from Founders, American leaders, other experts, and the Bible; questions for discussion. Some chapters also include suggestions for further exploration of the topic.
